A panel of faculty members from the Tauber Institute for Global Operations at the University of Michigan will select one finalist from each of the four NADA regions and one national Dealer of the Year. McKay was chosen to represent The Louisiana Automobile Dealers Association in the national competition.

“I live by the philosophy that to whom much is given, much is expected,” McKay says in a statement. “Most of my time and resources have been dedicated to improving the school systems in our area.”

McKay’s resume of philanthropic work includes establishing the Ascension Fund for Academic Excellence in 1991 to award grants to teachers and schools inspiring excellence in public education. He also underwrote the Scholastic Read and Rise program to promote literacy in 24 low-income Baton Rouge area schools and established the McKay Automotive Technology Center at Baton Rouge Community College, among others.

The award is sponsored by Time in conjunction with Ally Financial, which recognizes dealer nominees and their community efforts by contributing $1,000 to each nominee’s charity of choice. Nominees will also be recognized on AllyDealerHeroes.com.
