The criminal trial of Allen Stanford, who is accused of running a Ponzi scheme that bilked investors out of more than $7 billion, has been postponed again. Stanford’s trial had been set to begin in September, but a federal judge in Houston pushed it back until January, according to Bloomberg News. Stanford is undergoing treatment in North Carolina for an addiction to anti-anxiety drugs. Stanford, 61, has been in jail since he was indicted and arrested in June 2009. His trial was originally set to begin in January 2011, but it was postponed after the judge found him incompetent to stand trial. Stanford suffered a brain injury in a jail fight in 2009, and that, coupled with his dependence on anti-anxiety medication and depression, caused psychiatrists to say he is incompetent to stand trial. Stanford has denied all wrongdoing.
