Friday marked the first time in nearly four years that Stabbed in the Art, a homegrown collective art show and market that has been held on the first Friday of each month, hasn’t celebrated the work of local and regional artists in Baton Rouge. December’s Stabbed in the Art event was the last of the volunteer-driven art shows to be held at 1284 Perkins, the former Tiger District warehouse located in the Garden District on Perkins Road at Terrace Avenue. The event’s organizers, including Tiger District co-founder Jared Loftus, are currently searching for a new venue and will take January off in order to focus on a re-launch of the event, aimed for February. Moving into the venue instead will be stylist Micah Nickens, who plans to expand his hair salon into a modular salon and gallery venue for art, music and fashion events. Nickens and partner Andi Eaton were recently profiled as two of 225 magazine’s People to Watch in 2013. As for the future of Stabbed in the Art, Loftus says he is considering a Kickstarter campaign to raise community awareness of the event. “We’d like to keep it going,” he says. “We’ve been looking into other places to have it, and we’re definitely open to suggestions or offers to host.” —Jeff Roedel
