A two-year deal: The New Orleans Saints have signed free agent linebacker Victor Butler. Butler was drafted in the fourth round in the 2009 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys and has played in 63 games with two starts, posting career totals of 64 tackles, 11 sacks, two stops for a loss, five passes defensed, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. On special teams, he has registered 40 tackles and one forced fumble.
A Super Bowl hero returns? Multiple reports say cornerback Tracy Porter visited the Saints on Monday. The free agent hasn’t signed with the team—at least, not yet. Porter cemented his place in Saints history when his 74-yard interception return for a touchdown late in Super Bowl XLIV helped seal the victory for New Orleans. The Saints also might be interested in free agent defensive end Dwight Freeney, NFL News reports, if cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha chooses the San Francisco 49ers over New Orleans.
“A multimedia cannonball run”: As the NCAA men’s basketball championship tournament resumes today, ESPN.com writer Eamonn Brennan plans to hit four cities for four regionals in four days. He will head west to Los Angeles to see Ohio State try to get past Arizona; swing south to Texas to punch his “ticket for the Jerryworld ride”; head east to Washington, D.C., and watch Indiana, Syracuse, Miami and Marquette play “in the shadow of the U.S. Capitol”; and end in hoops-obsessed Indianapolis, where “Louisville continues its laser-eyed Final Four mission.”
