Long way from Tiger Stadium: Former LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux returns to Louisiana on Sept. 26, when Jacksonville (Ala.) State plays at Nicholls State. Perrilloux, a highly recruited player from East St. John High School in Reserve, transferred to Jacksonville State after he was dismissed from the LSU football team last spring.

A big new teammate for LeBron? The NBA trade deadline came and went at 2 p.m. on a day when the biggest deal might have been a buzzer-beater that sent Houston Rockets guard Rafer Alston to the Orlando Magic. But ESPN.com reported the Cleveland Cavaliers and Phoenix Suns have discussed a possible trade involving former LSU center Shaquille O’Neal. In a proposal first reported by The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer, Sasha Pavlovic and either Ben Wallace or Wally Szczerbiak were offered to the Suns for O’Neal as part of the Cavs’ well-chronicled quest to add one more big man for the playoffs as well as show LeBron James the team will do anything necessary to win a championship. ESPN.com reported the deal was unlikely to happen before the today’s deadline.
