Olympic hope: LSU senior sprinter Kimberlyn Duncan runs tonight in the first round of the 200-meter dash at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore. Duncan, considered one of LSU’s most decorated track and field athletes, has the No. 2 overall ranking in the world for 2012 in the sprint. Tonight’s event is being televised at 8:45 p.m. by the NBC Sports Network. To learn more about Duncan, click here.
The second pick: With the New Orleans Hornets all but certain to use their first lottery pick tonight on Kentucky power forward Anthony Davis, there is some big talent needed at the center position with last week’s trading of Emeka Okafor. Sportswriter John Reid of The Times-Picayune speculates the Hornets will use their 10th pick on North Carolina center Tyler Zeller. Reid also breaks down the first 14 picks of the draft, which can be read here.
Another final four Dan Wetzel, author of Death to the BCS: The Definitive Case Against the Bowl Championship Series, invokes his inner Jon Stewart and recalls arguments bowl presidents made against a college football playoff system before embracing it earlier this week. “You have to employ a situational moral sliding scale to fully embrace a sport where everyone gets paid but the players, and even a lot of those who eventually make NFL riches wind up broke because they didn’t get much of an education,” Wetzel writes.
