LSU slips a spot: Although LSU slipped one spot to No. 3 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, ranking behind Alabama and Oklahoma, ESPN still has the Tigers ranked as the strongest team in the SEC. ESPN says the Tigers “have shown that you don’t need a powerful offense to succeed.” See the full SEC power rankings here.
Ready for Thursday: If Les Miles had any concerns about a short week to prepare for LSU’s Southeastern Conference opener at No. 25 Mississippi State on Thursday night, they’ve all but vanished. Miles was able to get numerous starters off the field early against Northwestern State on Saturday night, when an LSU lineup made up of numerous reserves, including backup quarterback Zach Mettenberger, turned a 28-3 halftime lead into a 49-3 victory. “This is going to be an exciting game this Thursday,” Miles says. “I look forward to it, to be honest with you. I think the change in schedule will be good for us.”
