Roaring in: The 22nd-ranked LSU women’s basketball team is playing arguably the best basketball of any team in the SEC right now. Riding a league-best and season-best six-game winning streak, a new season begins for the Lady Tigers tonight as it takes on Auburn in its first game of the 2013 SEC Tournament in Duluth, Ga. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Louisiana (cable channel 1079 HD for Cox Communications subscribers) and it will also be streamed live on ESPN3.com and the Watch ESPN App for tablet users. Naming names: “America 12 Conference” is the favorite to become the new name of the current Big East Conference’s football schools, league sources tell ESPN. The name has not officially been approved by the league’s presidents. The conference also is considering several other names, sources say. However, Covington & Burling, the conference’s law firm, purchased and registered the domain name “America12.org” on Tuesday. The full story can be found here.
Stripes and style: Dan Stock got a phone call last week from a friend who saw a news item about some funky new basketball shorts that Adidas was unveiling for the forthcoming NCAA tournament. Stock said his friend advised him to go online and check it out. “I took one look and was like: ‘Oh, boy. Here we go again,’ ” says Stock, who along with his business partner, Bob Truax, created Zubaz—the loose-fitting, zebra-print pants that grew into one of the most recognizable fashion motifs of the early 1990s.
