Fab five: Five LSU Tigers are included on Sports Illustrated‘s preseason All America team, announced today. Tyrann Mathieu, better known as The Honey Badger, was named to the first team twice, both as cornerback and kick returner. Tigers defensive end Sam Montgomery, safety Eric Reid and punter Brad Wing were also named to the first team, while offensive tackle Chris Faulk was named to the second team. The Tigers have more players on the team than any other school. Check out the entire All America team here.
Visions of perfection: The LSU Tigers will rout most of its regular-season opponents in the forthcoming season, narrowly beat Alabama and finish the season a perfect 12-0. Sound familiar? That’s the vision the gurus at Bleacher Report are seeing when they peer into their crystal ball. “There are relatively few holes for the LSU Tigers in 2012,” the online sports site says in a feature that predicts the outcome of every Tigers regular-season game (apparently the crystal ball doesn’t include postseason results). Check out the complete feature here.
Going long: Despite rumblings earlier this week that the NFL might consider extending an olive branch to suspended New Orleans Saints middle linebacker Jonathan Vilma—the league denied the ESPN report—it now seems the defensive captain and league will be in court Friday (sans settlement) as he seeks to secure a temporary restraining order that would lift the season-long ban for his alleged role in the team’s pay-for-performance/bounty program, USA Today reports. U.S. District Judge Ginger Berrigan is scheduled to meet with both sides Friday and could make a subsequent ruling. Read the full story here.
