La. native leads RedHawks to win: Lance Guidry, the interim football coach at Miami (Ohio), led the RedHawks to a win in the GoDaddy.com Bowl Thursday night. Guidry is a native of Welsh, who coached at Leesville High, Carencro High and McNeese State. He joined the staff of Miami in 2009 and was named interim coach for the bowl after Mike Haywood left to take the head coaching job at Pittsburgh. Guidry is now in coaching limbo, after Pittsburgh dumped Haywood following his arrest on a domestic violence charge. Guidry’s been getting a lot of attention on the Internet today for the rousing pregame speech he gave to the RedHawks before last night’s bowl game. See it here.
Fifteen in a row: LSU has led the country in total college baseball attendance for the 15th season in a row. In the 2010 season nearly 405,000 fans showed up for Tiger baseball home games. That’s far ahead of runner-up Arkansas, which drew a total of 292,734 fans last season. LSU baseball also led the nation in average attendance for the 14th time in 15 years, with 10,655 fans showing up at each home game. That number was boosted by LSU’s April 17 game against Alabama, which set a single-game attendance record of 12,313.
