Baby to a man: Former LSU star Glen “Big Baby” Davis has grown up after his buzzer-beating shot led the Boston Celtics to a victory in Game 4 of their playoff series with the Orlando Magic. ESPN profiled Davis, who talks about how basketball helped him deal with a troubled childhood. See the interview here. 225 magazine recently featured an exclusive story about the 20-foot jumper Davis had been working on (read it here), as well as his championship years at University High (read it here). The Celtics play the Magic in Game 5 of their series tonight in a game that tips off at 7 p.m. on TNT. The best of seven series is tied two games to two.
Good sports: LSU has moved up to 12th in the rankings for the Learfield Sports Director’s Cup, which ranks the overall strength of college athletic programs. Stanford leads the rankings, and Florida is ranked sixth, but is the top SEC program. The Director’s Cup measures the strength of 20 men’s and women’s athletic programs. Over the next month, the Tigers should rise in the rankings, since all of its remaining spring sports — baseball, softball, men’s and women’s track, men’s and women’s golf, and men’s and women’s tennis — are headed to postseason play. Last year, LSU finished eighth in the rankings, its best ever placing in the Director’s Cup.
