Baton Rouge celebrities will gather at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Cypress Mound Baseball Complex on Gardere Lane to play a charity softball game for the troops. All proceeds from the game will go to military nonprofits Support Our War Heroes and Blue Star Moms of Louisiana. Acclaimed musicians such as David St. Romain will team up with TV personalities Jacques Doucet and Greg Meriwether of WAFB, among others, to raise money for serving soldiers, veterans and their families. Admission is $10.… If you’d like to support soldiers while rocking out, head over to the third annual Red, Rock & Blue concert at the Varsity Saturday night. The concert will feature top tribute acts to some of the biggest bands of the 1980s: Van Halen tribute band The Atomic Punks, Motley Crue cover band Motley Inc., and Guns n’ Roses tribute Appetite for Destruction. Just like the softball game, the concert will direct all proceeds toward Support Our War Heroes and Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased here.… And for a cool way to beat the intense July heat, the Baton Rouge RiverCenter is offering ice skating starting Friday and going until July 17. It’s $12 for a 90-minute ice skating session, plus refreshments. For $5 more, you can make it a day out downtown, with admission vouchers to the USS Kidd and the LASM.
