Editor’s note: This story has been updated since its original publication to correct references to Tiger Deauxnuts. Smokin Aces on Government Street was acquired by Tiger Deauxnuts owner Jeff Herman in 2016, and Herman merged the two restaurants into Tiger Deauxnuts and Barbecue in 2018. Brian Medlin was not the owner, nor was he ever affiliated with Tiger Deauxnuts, which closed in May. Daily Report regrets the error.

Smokin Aces BBQ is back in business at a new location in Denham Springs.

On Jan. 17, Medlin opened the new Smokin Aces location in an 8,500-square-foot space formerly occupied by Nando’s Mexican Restaurant and Cantina off of S. Range Avenue, near I-12.

“Denham Springs was the perfect market for barbecue,” Medlin says. “Denham Springs is known for strong family and community bonds, filled with great people and excellent growth potential.”

The new four-room location has 130 seats, five flat-screen TVs and an open kitchen. The restaurant features murals by local artist Marc Fresh and has stylish cow and pig-themed art and decor sprinkled throughout each room. Outside, customers can eat at the same two red picnic tables that were at the original spot in Mid City.

Now that the restaurant has reopened, Medlin’s main goal is to perfect the business model, customer experience and serve consistent barbecue that delivers every time, he says. Over time he hopes to expand with more locations.
