Rep. Patricia Haynes Smith is running for a second term in the state House of Representatives. Smith, a Democrat, was elected to the District 67 seat four years ago. The district covers LSU, Old South Baton Rouge, downtown and parts of North Baton Rouge. Smith, a former East Baton Rouge School Board member, is the chair of the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus and vice chair of the House Democratic Caucus Committee. She plans to continue her work on education reform, job creation and training, economic development, penal reform and health care services. Democrat Lorri Burgess, a former Metro Council member who ran for the seat in 2007, also plans to run.
