The Slidell Municipal Airport is expanding. The facility breaks ground next week on a 16-unit tee hangar complex to expand the general aviation airport’s capabilities. Over the last several years, the Slidell Airport has gotten more than $11 million in federal funds to enhance its operations. Recent projects include a 5,000-foot runway extension that allows the airport to accommodate 98% of all general aviation aircraft; a new lighting guidance system; another 16-unit tee hangar complex; a 4,000-square-foot terminal building and emergency operations center; five new single-unit hangars; a self-fueling facility; a new south taxi lane; and land acquisition for future expansion. The groundbreaking on the new hangar is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday.
