The Shaw Group Inc. announced this morning it has signed a new contract with Arizona Public Service Co. to provide maintenance and construction services to eight fossil power plants in Arizona and New Mexico. Shaw already holds a contract with APS to provide maintenance, modifications, construction and radiological protection services to its Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, located 55 miles west of Phoenix. “With the addition of fossil fleet services, we are continuing to develop a strong alliance with APS to help them safely and efficiently generate electricity for the long term,” says Ron McCall, president of Shaw’s Plant Services Division. The value of the three-year contract was not disclosed. “Arizona’s extreme temperatures and historical growth require the availability of power plants maintained at the highest level,” says Mark Schiavoni, senior vice president of APS Fossil Generation. “Shaw clearly has demonstrated it is able to provide the maintenance services our fossil plants need to help ensure the high level of reliability our customers expect.” Shaw is a leading provider of power plant and nuclear maintenance, providing maintenance and modification services to 44 of the 104 operating nuclear power reactors in the United States, including the country’s two largest nuclear fleets and largest nuclear power plant. Headquartered in Phoenix, APS is Arizona’s largest and longest-serving electric utility, providing electricity to more than 1.1 million customers in 11 of the state’s 15 counties.
