Southern University has announced the seven companies that have applied to be the school’s partner in its new medical marijuana program.
The Southern University Ag Center is currently in the process of reviewing the applications and tentatively plans to submit a report to the center’s evaluation committee by the end of the month.
The seven companies are: Advanced Bio Medical, Aqua Pharm, Citiva Louisiana, Columbia Care, Med Louisiana, Southern Roots and U.S. Hemp Corporation.
Southern has created a division—the Medicinal Plant Institute—devoted to studying medical marijuana. LSU recently selected its vendor, pending approval from the school’s board.
LSU and Southern are the two institutions licensed by the state to run Louisiana’s medical marijuana program. The universities will conduct research on the plant and the private partners will produce marijuana in non-smokable forms for patients with a limited number of serious diseases.
LSU selected GB Sciences Inc. of Nevada to be the sole operators of its medical marijuana program. See an overview of Southern’s medical marijuana program.
