The Senate narrowly voted against a measure that would set up a tax increment financing district for a Hilton Garden Inn in Perkins Rowe. The measure failed by a 17-15 vote that split the Capital Region delegation: Sens. Jody Amedee, Dan Claitor and Rob Marionneaux voted against the bill, while Sens. Sharon Weston Broome, Yvonne Dorsey, Dale Erdey, Ben Nevers and Neil Riser voted for it. Supporters of the bill argued that developer Tommy Spinosa could lose funding for the Hilton Garden if he can’t get a TIF, because a special financing district has been established to turn partially completed Jimmy Swaggart Ministries dormitory nearby into a hotel. Opponents noted that Spinosa is being sued by a number of Perkins Rowe contractors for unpaid work and services.
