It’s official. Louisianans will have another chance to see Donald Trump—now President-elect Trump—in-person when he stumps in Baton Rouge on Friday in support of Republican state Treasurer John Kennedy’s U.S. Senate bid.
Trump will appear at a noon event taking place at the Dow Chemical hangar, 3259 Harriet Quimby Ave., near the Baton Rouge Metro Airport. The event is open to the public, but those who want to attend must RSVP.
As The USA Today Network of Louisiana reports, news of Trump’s visit broke Tuesday. His trip comes less than a week after Vice President-elect Mike Pence also headlined a get-out-the-vote rally for Kennedy in New Orleans.
Kennedy and Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell, a Democrat, are vying in a runoff election this Saturday for the last remaining U.S. Senate seat.
The race, which was whittled down from 24 candidates to two during the primary, has attracted national attention from both Republicans and Democrats because it’s the last opportunity for Democrats to flip a national seat in their favor.
Trump will be flanked by Louisiana’s top Republican politicians and officials, including: Republican U.S. Sens. David Vitter and Bill Cassidy; state Attorney General Jeff Landry; Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser; Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain; Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon; Congressmen Steve Scalise, Ralph Abraham, Charles Boustany, John Fleming and Garret Graves; and state GOP Chairman Roger Villere.
Republican state Sen. Bodi White, who is running for Baton Rouge mayor against Democrat Sharon Weston Broome, has also been invited to share the stage.
