Sen. Dan Claitor and Rep. Paula Davis of Baton Rouge are among 16 state legislators who consistently voted in line with positions the Louisiana chapter of the National Federation of Independent Businesses advocated for bills related to small businesses during the most recent legislative session.
The state chapter released the 2016-17 NFIB Louisiana Voting Record this morning. The report identifies 11 bills—ranging from ban the box to equal pay—important to the NFIB, as well as the organization’s position on the bill and how Louisiana lawmakers voted.
The NFIB said “no” on issues like legislation preventing employers from requiring job applicants to disclose their criminal backgrounds and requiring advance payments of sales taxes collected and remitted by certain tobacco and alcoholic beverages wholesalers. The organization said “yes” to a bill that removed language from the state’s equal pay legislation that would have made it easier to sue employers.
“This voting record is a reflection of the enormous support small business has in the Louisiana Legislature,” Dawn Starns, NFIB state director says. “By continuing to elect legislators and leaders committed to supporting our small business owners and employees, voters will have the greatest impact on improving their own local community’s economic future as well as our entire state.”
