DEL Corp. announced today plans to undergo a $4.3 million, 40,000-square-foot expansion of its tank and filtration system manufacturing plant in Scott. Louisiana Economic Development estimates the project will create 77 construction jobs, 90 new direct jobs and 200 new indirect jobs with salaries averaging $62,600 plus benefits. Hiring has already begun.

“As we ramp up production from this new facility over the next 10 years, we intend to hire 22 professionals in engineering and design and 68 specialists, such as CNC operators, welders, electricians and equipment technicians, as well as sales and clerical support staff,” DEL Corp. CEO Bob Kulbeth says in a news release.

The project has been in the works since August. Construction will begin this month and is expected to be complete in March. The plant produces customized tank systems and equipment used for solids-separation and dewatering. The expansion will allow the company to quadruple its production capacity.

DEL will fund the project with the help of a mix of incentives from the state, including $215,000 of Modernization Tax Credits, Quality Jobs and Industrial Tax exemptions, and services of the state’s FastStart workforce development and training program.

DEL was founded in 1979 as Drilling Equipment of Lafayette. During the oil bust of the 1980s, it was able to convert its business to tanks and mixers for the environmental services industry. Gov. Bobby Jindal’s office has more details on today’s announcement.
