Louisiana Secretary of State Tom Schedler is warning business owners to be on the lookout for annual report correspondences that appear to come from the state, but have not. At least two private companies—one called Louisiana Corporate Compliance; the other, Corporate Compliance Company—have sent letters to local corporations and LLCs offering to file their annual reports for a fee. The letters suggest the filing is required by state law, and they’ve been timed to coincide with the state’s Annual Report Renewal Notice, which went out in January. But Schedler cautions businesses against sending filing fees to either of the compliance companies. “Any reports sent to the Louisiana Corporate Compliance … will not fulfill the reports that are due to the Department of State under Louisiana law,” Schedler says.
