Louisiana is being considered as a potential site for a General Electric training center, which could bring several hundred jobs to the state, state Rep. Steve Scalise tells WWL-TV in New Orleans. Scalise, R-Jefferson, says he met with GE chief executive Jeff Immelt and other company officials on Monday in Washington, D.C., to discuss the state’s chances. “We had some good conversations about the prospects of them bringing a couple hundred jobs to the New Orleans area,” Scalise says, adding, “We’re definitely in the hunt,” though no specific timetable was given by the company on when it plans to make a final decision. Scalise declined to give details on the prospective location for the training center, but says it would likely be in southern Louisiana.
