When Sasol announced earlier this year the appointment of six major Louisiana-based construction contractors to support construction of its $8.1 billion ethane cracker and derivatives project in Lake Charles, it reflected a commitment of more than $1 billion in contracts.
As a result, numerous hiring, subcontract and procurement opportunities will be available directly with the contractors: Cajun Constructors, James Industrial Constructors, Turner Industries, ISC Constructors and MMR Constructors—all based on Baton Rouge—plus Civil Construction Co. & Environmental Services of Westlake.
As 10/12 Industry Report details in a feature from the new spring issue, South African-based Sasol recently held a forum in Lake Charles to help the region’s businesses take advantage of these subcontracting opportunities. Rusty DeBarge, director of construction management services at James Industrial, says his company made itself available to any subcontractor interested in doing business with Sasol. James will need between 40-60 vendors for services like site and tree clearing, foundation, fill and underground piping work.
And more opportunities abound for subcontractors.
