Sales tax collections in East Baton Rouge Parish were up in August compared to the same month last year, the third straight increase the parish has posted, according to figures released today by the city-parish Finance Department.
Collections totalled just over $15 million in August, up 1.6% over collections of roughly $14.8 million in August last year. Eight months into the year—during which monthly collections were up over 2014 figures in seven months—collections are up 3% over year-to-date 2014 figures. A total of $121.3 million has been collected this year, compared to $117.7 million last year.
Collections were up both inside the city limits of Baton Rouge and outside during August, the figures show. The roughly $8.5 million collected inside the city limits marked a 1.9% increase over the $8.3 million collected a year ago. In the parish, the $6.5 million collected was 1.2% better than the $6.4 million brought in last August.
