RSD launches Baton Rouge Achievement Zone advisory board

The Recovery School District announced today the creation of a first-of-its-kind advisory board to assist the RSD in engaging the Baton Rouge community and getting input on priorities for the Baton Rouge Achievement Zone. The 22-member board includes representatives from the East Baton Rouge School System, city-parish government and various civic organizations and churches, as well as parents. The board has already begun visiting schools in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, in addition to holding discussions with various education organizations. “It is critical for us to fully grasp the magnitude of the current situation, so we can have meaningful conversations with the public on innovative and sustainable solutions for our schools. A high-quality education system is a key factor in economic development and business growth,” says Jason El Koubi, an advisory board member and LED assistant secretary. “We want to ensure that we nurture home grown talent to fill the job opportunities generated by new and expanding companies throughout Louisiana.” The state-run RSD Baton Rouge Achievement Zone was created to turn around under-performing schools in the north Baton Rouge area.
