Former La. Gov. Buddy Roemer will be in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday afternoon to testify before the Senate Committee on the Judiciary at a hearing called “Taking Back Our Democracy: Responding to Citizens United and the Rise of Super PACs.” Roemer, who made fighting the corruptible influence of special interest money the cornerstone of his now defunct bid for the presidency, says he’ll make three key recommendations to the committee. “One, I’d like to see full disclosure of all contributions, no matter who gives or how much. Two, I want to see a 48-hour reporting requirement; right now it’s six months, which means you can give a pile of cash today and no one will know until after the election is over,” Roemer says. “And three, we should not be allowing registered lobbyists to give checks to our elected representatives. Lobbyists play an important role in politics, but it should not be with a check.” The committee session will be aired on CSPAN locally on Tuesday beginning at 1:30 p.m. You can also check out a webcast of it at the committee’s website here.
