The Prairieville estate at16381 Old Jefferson Highway once belonging to author Robert Penn Warren is slated to be auctioned in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Baton Rouge on Friday, Oct. 7. The turn-of-the-century farmhouse estate had previously been at the center of a dispute between its former owners and the bank, which foreclosed on the property in 2008. Warren, who was an LSU English professor in the 1930s and 1940s and co-founded the literary journal The Southern Review, is thought to have started developing his classic novel All the King’s Men while living in the house. The restaurant, says Sammy’s owner Sammy Nagem, is scheduled to open in the spring of next year.
