Restaurant Depot, a member’s only wholesale food service supplier, is coming to Baton Rouge in 2017.

In a deal that closed in late September, JMDH Real Estate of Baton Rouge LLC, which is owned by the parent company of Restaurant Depot, acquired a 7.3-acre parcel at the intersection of O’Neal Lane and Commercial Avenue near Interstate 12 from multiple members of the David and Perkins families. The sale price was $900,000.

A spokeswoman for Restaurant Depot confirms the company will develop its second Louisiana location on the site—its first Louisiana location is in New Orleans near Xavier University—and hopes to be open by the fourth quarter of next year.

Restaurant Depot is a 26-year-old company based in College Point, New York, that operates 121 warehouse-style restaurant supply outlets in 33 states. The members-only stores, which average about 60,000 square feet, offer free memberships and more than 11,000 kinds of foods, beverages, equipment and other food service supplies.

While the company bills itself as a restaurant supply store, its members also include nonprofit organizations like churches and daycares, as well as businesses that are licensed to provide food in some way.

Restaurant Depot competes with companies like Sysco and US Foods by offering a cash-and-carry supply model, saving customers money by eliminating fuel and delivery surcharges.

Stores average $1 million per week in revenue, according to previously published reports.
