Former Gov. Edwin Edwards, set to be released to a halfway house this month after spending the past eight years in federal prison, is set to be named grand marshal of the 75th International Rice Festival in Crowley. The Crowley Post-Signal says festival organizers have tapped Edwards for the honor. The festival will be held Oct. 20-22. Edwards will be free from federal prison custody by then, after completing 8˝ years of a 10-year sentence for bribery and racketeering. Edwards, 83, got his political start in Crowley, with his election to the city council in 1954.
