The Cleveland Browns have fired head coach Eric Mangini, one day after the team wrapped up its second consecutive 5-11 season. Despite upset wins over the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots this season, the Browns had a disappointing year, capped off by an embarrassing 41-9 home loss to Pittsburgh Sunday. Speculation is that former Green Bay Packers coach Mike Holmgren, now the Browns’ president, may return to coach the team.
ESPN is reporting that the Oakland Raiders will likely fire coach Tom Cable. The Raiders were 8-8 this past season, but Cable’s overall record is 17-27 with the team. And Marvin Lewis may not be back with the Cincinnati Bengals. His contract to coach the team has expired, and Lewis wants the team to make changes, such as upgrading its training facilities and player personnel department, before signing an extension.
