Romans 8:31-35 pose seven strategic questions; and if they are affirmatively answered, they bring a convincing that is needed for life. Life with convictions/being convinced brings solidarity. Question No. 4 is also followed by a confirming statement, and it reads: “Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies.” The one who God chooses, and that one, in return, chooses/receives Christ in relationship with the Father is justified. (Romans 3:21-26) Justification is the legal act in the courtroom of God by which the Father deems a person acceptable and righteous, on the basis of Christ work or performance on the Cross, and the work of Christs’ resurrection. Yes, people can throw all kinds of accusations and charges against you—even false ones. Jesus is personally familiar with this kind of rejection. It is painful and hurtful. However, in the midst of that earthly charge, we can hear the voice of the Beloved, which brings peace. He speaks from Romans 5:1: “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” He can say to our hearts, “No one can bring a charge against you that defines you, for I have justified you!”
