Complex gets new owners:The Acadian Place Apartments on South Flannery Road have been sold to a Metairie investment group for $5.4 million. Acadian Place Partners of Baton Rouge bought the 120-unit complex from Acadian Place, an Alexandria group, in a deal filed Thursday. Clyde Phillips, a managing partner with the group, says the deal was a good fit because the company owns two complexes nearby: the Spires of Sherwood and Eden Point

What’s for dinner?: The Metro Council’s Planning and Zoning Commission approved zoning changes — from “light commercial” to “commercial alcoholic beverage” — for the building that once housed Perkins Road Hardware. Rock-n-Sake, a popular New Orleans sushi restaurant, will open in a 3,500-square-foot space later this year or in early 2010. Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches, a delivery franchise, opens in its 1,300-square-foot space in three or four months.

Big deal: Nucor Steel, which is considering building a $4 billion pig iron plant in St. James Parish, has purchased nearly 890 acres for $16.3 million. Stephen Moret, Louisiana Economic Development Secretary, says while Nucor is waiting for an air quality permit from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency before making a final decision on the St. James site, he’s “cautiously optimistic” the plant will be built in the state. “We certainly view the company’s decision to begin purchasing land to assemble the proposed site as a very positive indicator of Nucor’s interest in Louisiana,” Moret says.
