Any privatization of insurance policies handled by the Office of Group Benefits won’t happen until 2013, Commission of Administration Paul Rainwater says. Rainwater told Louisiana Gannett News that no action on privatizing the policies would happen until next year and it would be a year before the changes took effect. “It’s a slow-moving process,” Rainwater says, adding that it isn’t a foregone conclusion that the insurance office for state employees and retirees will be privatized. But State Sen. Butch Gautreaux, D-Morgan City, an opponent of changes to Group Benefits, says he doesn’t believe Rainwater. “The story keeps changing,” Gautreaux told the news service. “First he said they’re not going to sell policies, then they were looking for a third party, the sale was off the table, and now they spend almost a million dollars to have someone review it to see what it would bring.” Read the full story here.
