Longtime WAFB-TV health and medical reporter Phil Rainier is leaving the local CBS affiliate station and his career in broadcast after more than 30 years. Rainier announced his departure this week; he will be taking a position as director of marketing and communications at a physical therapy clinic in Central. “Phil has done a spectacular job for us during his three decades at WAFB,” news director Robb Hays tells Daily Report. “We wish him the best as he pursues this tremendous opportunity.” Rainier’s last day on the air is Friday, Oct. 5. Hays says the station will begin looking for a replacement soon. —Stephanie Riegel
