It was only a matter of time for the word “race” to enter the fray over Gov. Bobby Jindal’s proposal to look at merging the University of New Orleans and Southern University at New Orleans, says Business Report Publisher Rolfe McCollister. But the “r” word that should be used is “results,” he says. “If you look at SUNO’s 5% graduation rate over a six-year period, and its enrollment of just over 3,000 students, and the fact it’s the lowest-ranked university in the state, there is no question that SUNO is the top candidate for closure or merger,” McCollister says. “There is no defense, and taxpayers should not have to fund it.” Read the full column here.
