“Raiding the Megafund is a declaration of war on job creation in Louisiana. Should this action stand, voters will see it as the most harmful anti-jobs action of the Legislature in this century.” This was the statement from chambers of commerce around the state—and Business Report Publisher Rolfe McCollister adds to it his own views on megafund cuts in his recent column. McCollister pointed at Republicans in the state House of Representatives. “These are supposed to be leaders making critical decisions for our future. But when I see some of the decisions they make, I often ask myself, ‘What are they thinking?’ ” He says the move to rob the megafund is “anti-jobs” and that every legislator who casts a vote to cut nearly $82 million in funding should be labeled as such. “I don’t expect much from Democrats, as they most often look to government to create jobs—and let the taxpayers pick up the tab,” McCollister says. “But I hold Republicans to a higher bar, and there is nothing they can say to justify megafund cuts. Nothing.” In the same column, the publisher congratulates this year’s Influential Women in Business honorees, and also discusses how the 2011 BizTech Expo is blazing a trail and going virtual.
