BATON ROUGE (AP) — Louisiana utility regulators could decide today whether to put a major power plant project on a lengthy hiatus — or cancel the plan altogether.
Last month, Entergy Louisiana recommended a delay of at least three years in its plan to convert a generator at the Little Gypsy plant in southeastern Louisiana from natural gas to petroleum coke.
Since the Public Service Commission approved the project in late 2007, it has escalated in costs and natural gas prices have fallen sharply. At the same time, it’s unknown what carbon legislation will eventually emerge from Congress.
Environmental groups are calling for outright cancellation of the project.
