Oil and natural gas production continues to return to levels before Tropical Storm Lee visited the Gulf of Mexico. The federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement says five of 617 staffed production platforms in the gulf were still evacuated. Those shut-down platforms represent just under 15% of the gulf’s normal daily oil production—or about 206,000 barrels. About 7% of the normal natural gas production— or 363 million cubic feet—is also shut down. Two of the 70 drilling rigs currently operating in the gulf remained shut down as of today.
