A Louisiana waste collection service formed in the days after Hurricane Katrina is being taken over by a major waste disposal company. Terms of the agreement between SDT Waste and Debris Services and IESIK, a subsidiary of Progressive Waste Solutions, were not revealed today. SDT founder and president, Sidney Torres IV, will be retained by IESIK as a consultant. After Katrina, Torres went from working as a real estate developer to becoming a garbage mogul. He outfitted garbage trucks with high-gloss black paint and a bright white logo of a bull and cut TV commercials with his famous rock and roll friends Lenny Kravitz and Kid Rock. SDT will remain the contractor for garbage collection in the downtown New Orleans area and the French Quarter, along with the parishes of Iberia, East Feliciana, St. Bernard, St. Charles and Tangipahoa, and the town of Independence.
