Harvey Gulf International Marine says it has completed the first successful refueling at its newly constructed LNG terminal facility in Port Fourchon.

In a news release, the company says it transferred 43,000 gallons of liquefied natural gas to the M/V Harvey Energy, the country’s first LNG-powered ship. The terminal pumps LNG at 550 gallons per minute and features three 90,000-gallon vacuum insulated tanks.

“This a testament to Harvey Gulf’s commitment to promoting the use of LNG, a clean, abundant, and cost-effective alternative marine fuel,” Harvey Gulf Chairman and CEO Shane Guidry says in a statement. “With the completion of our LNG terminal at Port Fourchon, we are able to provide a LNG bunkering point at the epicenter of marine operations for the Gulf of Mexico, which is vital to continuing the shift to LNG as a marine fuel.”

The M/V Harvey Energy, delivered to Harvey Gulf last year, is one of two LNG-powered ships Harvey Gulf owns. The second is the M/V Harvey Power, and both ships are under charter to Shell and support Shell in the Gulf of Mexico.
