A new nationwide opinion poll says the majority of small-business owners think big corporations and the wealthy don’t pay their fair share of taxes by using tax loopholes and accounting gimmicks to shift U.S. profits to offshore tax havens. The majority of those polled supports increasing taxes on millionaire incomes, letting high-end tax cuts expire, and closing the carried interest loophole that gives big tax breaks to hedge fund managers. The scientific survey of 500 small-business owners was released by three small-business advocacy groups: American Sustainable Business Council, Main Street Alliance and Small Business Majority. Among the key findings: 67% of small business owners believe big corporations do not pay their fair share of taxes, with 58% saying households whose annual income exceeds $1 million pay less than their fair share. Regarding tax cuts for those making above $200,000, 51% say they should lapse. Respondents were politically diverse, with 27% calling themselves Republican, 23% independent-leaning Republican, 14% Democrat, 18% independent-leaning Democratic, and 15% without party affiliation.
