A new poll of likely Republican Iowa caucus attendees shows Gov. Bobby Jindal—who made trips to the state on at least four separate occasions last year—has lost some appeal among voters in The Hawkeye State since last fall.
The poll by The Des Moines Register and Bloomberg Politics shows 2% of those who said they’re either probably or definitely attending the GOP caucus favor Jindal as their top choice for president in 2016. Another 2% said Jindal would be their second choice. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker was identified as the top choice by 15% of poll respondents, followed by Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul at 14%, Mitt Romney at 13% and Mike Huckabee at 10%.
A closer look at the full poll results shows Iowa Republican caucus-goers are less favorable of Jindal today than they were when polled on Oct. 14 last year. In the latest poll, 39% of respondents said they have favorable feelings toward Jindal, down from 41% who said the same last fall.
The percentage of people who said they have an unfavorable view of Jindal, meanwhile, jumped to 20% in the latest poll from 14% last fall. The percentage of people who said they weren’t sure about Jindal either way declined to 41% from 45%.
When asked about the conservativeness of the likely 2016 candidates, 8% of poll respondents said Jindal is “too conservative,” while 6% said he’s “too moderate,” 38% said he’s “about right” and 48% said they’re not sure.
