Two large parcels in Pointe Coupee Parish are now considered development ready under the LED Certified Sites program. Created in 2010, the program ensures that a parcel either has all utilities and infrastructure in place for quick construction or can provide approved engineering plans for utility and infrastructure construction within 180 days. The larger of the two new sites is in Jarreau, where a 1,542-acre parcel—owned by Ralph and Kacoo Olinde—includes 4.25 miles of river and road frontage near False River. It is also the largest of the eight LED-certified sites in the Capital Region. The second site is a 902-acre parcel in Batchelor. BRAC says it’s owned by Joey Kent and Mr. and Mrs. Steven Kent. The Greater Pointe Coupee Parish Chamber of Economic Development, BRAC, Pointe Coupee Tax Assessor’s Office, Pointe Coupee Police Jury, Pointe Coupee Electric, and Entergy collaborated to get the sites development ready. “BRAC set a goal in 2012 to certify eight sites in the Capital Region under LED’s program,” says Iain Vasey, executive director of business development at BRAC. “These two sites bring BRAC’s total for 2012 to five, and three more sites are expected to be approved by the end of the year.” To read a recent Business Report story on the LED Certified Sites program, click here.
