With the course still a bit soggy but playable, the rain-delayed U.S. Open resumed this morning in Farmingdale, N.Y., amid hopes the first round would be completed by day’s end. Weather permitting, of course. Bethpage Black took more than an inch of rain in a day-long downpour Thursday and remained squishy in some spots when players resumed the season’s second major championship shortly before 5:30 a.m. Former LSU golfer David Toms is among seven players tied for the early lead at 1 under. Toms is joined atop the leaderboard by Drew Weaver, Graeme McDowell, Johan Edfors, Ben Martin, Martin Laird and Steve Allan. Tiger Woods is tied for 64th at 4 over. He started the day by missing a 10-foot par putt at the seventh hole, sending him to 2 over, and after spraying a drive way right on the 10th hole he slammed his driver in disgust.
