Plastipak Packaging plans to spend $9 million to expand production capacity at its manufacturing facility in Pineville. The company, which makes rigid plastic containers for the food, beverage and consumer products industries, plans to add three production lines for polyethylene terephthalate, or PET, products.

Louisiana Economic Development estimates the investment will create 20 new direct jobs paying about $40,000 annually, plus benefits, as well as another 38 indirect jobs. About 205 people currently work at the Pineville plant, which was built in 2003.

Plastipak is based in Plymouth, Michigan. Company officials and Gov. Bobby Jindal jointly announced the investment today via a news release.

LED says it has been working with the company on the expansion plan since December. To secure the investment, the state is providing Plastipak with workforce training and development assistance via the LED FastStart program. The company also is expected to benefit from the state’s Quality Jobs and Industrial Tax Exemption programs. The Quality Jobs program provides a cash rebate of up to 6% of the company’s payroll on new jobs created for 10 years. The industrial exemption offers a full abatement of local property taxes for a decade on new capital investment.
