The third phase of Highland Park Marketplace, an upscale retail center at the intersection of Highland Road and Perkins Road East, is moving ahead.

The phase, a building spanning 11,000 square feet, will include a Juban’s concept restaurant and a Kean’s Dry Cleaner. Design work has been completed, and permit applications will be filed in the coming days.

Developer George Kurz and Jubans’ owners, who have been working on the project since 2012, are remaining tight-lipped about the name and plans for the Juban’s concept restaurant there. It was originally to be called Juban Grille.

Kurz says the Jubans are still refining the name and brand, and will be ready to make an announcement soon.

“You can imagine the confusion of saying to someone that you will meet them at Juban’s on Perkins and getting confused between the two locations since both are on Perkins and Old Perkins,” Kurz says. “So naming and branding are key to making this work.”

The restaurant, when completed, will be the third Juban’s-owned eatery in Baton Rouge. Late last year, the Juban’s owners acquired Christina’s diner downtown. They also operate their signature restaurant on Perkins Road in the Acadian-Perkins Plaza.

The second phase of Highland Park Marketplace, an 8,000-square-foot building, was completed late last summer. It houses Zoe’s Kitchen, European Wax Center, Smoothie King and a boutique, Simply Chic.
