Don Pierson, Jr., Louisiana’s economic development secretary, has taken stories about the state’s workforce development achievements to Washington, D.C.
Pierson is in Washington today for a White House Panel discussion on the best practices in manufacturing, trade, infrastructure, workforce development and economic opportunity.
On Friday, he will participate in a separate roundtable discussion hosted by the International Economic Development Council.
“Both the White House forum and the roundtable offer great access to the best current thinking on all economic development topics,” Pierson says in a statement.
Louisiana’s LED FastStart program has been ranked No. 1 for state workforce training programs in the United States for six years. The program helps expanding employers ramp up project staff through highly customized recruitment, training, screening and orientation programs.
Today’s White House forum will feature a comprehensive outlook on the economy and delve into the connection between workforce development and manufacturing.
Panelists also will discuss the resources needed to attract foreign investment and the importance of sound policy infrastructure investments. Participants also will explore how economic success can be expanded to all citizens, regardless of neighborhood.
The International Economic Development Council, a 5,000-member nonprofit, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s SelectUSA program, and the National Economic Council are sponsoring today’s panel discussion.
Economists, administrators from the departments of commerce, treasury, agriculture, and labor, the Environmental Protection Agency, the White House, and state and private sector economic development professionals are taking part in the discussion.
