Mary Olive Pierson, a high-profile Baton Rouge attorney, says she’s thinking about running against Attorney General Buddy Caldwell this fall. “Yeah, I’m thinking about it again,” Pierson says. “I thought about it four years ago, but at that time I was mainly interested in getting rid of Charles Foti.” Pierson says she stayed out of the 2007 race because she didn’t want to diminish Caldwell’s chances of defeating Foti. But Caldwell hasn’t brought about the changes she initially hoped he would bring to the AG’s office, she says. “I’m just sort of tired of never seeing any changes,” she says. “It’s always new faces and the same old results.”
Pierson says she doesn’t know when she’ll make a final decision on whether to run against Caldwell. She has until September to qualify. No other challengers have stepped forward yet. “These are serious decisions, and I’ve reached a point in my career where I don’t have to make them in a hurry,” she says.
