The owner of The Elegant Needle in Mid City has purchased a new building at 6641 Government St. and plans to relocate her shop there.
The Elegant Needle LLC, represented by Catherine Pletsch Hedges, paid $307,500 for the building that was formerly occupied by accounting firm Daigrepont & Brian, which was also the seller. The deal closed Friday. Justin Langlois of SVN | Graham, Langlois & Legendre represented the buyer. Steve Legendre and Joey Canella, also of SVN | Graham, Langlois & Legendre represented the seller.
“Buildings in the Government Street corridor are hard to find, especially opportunities to purchase commercial real estate in Mid City,” SVN says in a news release. “This was a great opportunity for Catherine to increase the size of her storefront and offer more of a classroom setting for needlepoint workshops.”
The Elegant Needle has been in business for 22 years. Hedges says she has been working at The Elegant Needle since she was in college and purchased the shop from it previous owner, Marian Pyle, two years ago.
Pyle still has a presence at The Elegant Needle, working there once a week, Hedges says, adding The Elegant Needle and its customers are like a “little village.”
“Our customers are our friends and family,” she says. “When you walk into the store, you’re not just walking into a random store. You become part of us.”
Hedges says she won’t move the business to its new 2,451-square-foot building for at least two months.
